Maybe you left everything you knew to come here. You left family, friends, a familiar language, and the streets where you grew up. Now you are learning new systems, working long hours, and trying to build a future for your children. Starting over is brave, and it is also exhausting.
Some days you feel caught between two worlds. You miss home, yet home is not quite the same anymore. You are grateful for new opportunities, yet you feel unseen. If that is you, please hear this: God sees you, and He has not forgotten you.
The Bible is full of people who started over in a new land. Abraham left his country at God's call. Ruth left Moab and found a new family among God's people. Joseph was carried to Egypt, and God was with him there. God told His people, "When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them... Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt" (Leviticus 19:33 to 34, NIV).
The Lord is close to people who feel far from home. "The LORD watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow" (Psalm 146:9, NIV). Your story matters to Him.
As an Assemblies of God church, New Walk holds to the 16 Fundamental Truths. Fundamental Truth 16, The New Heavens and the New Earth, says: "We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness" (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:22).
That promise speaks to every person who feels like a stranger. Hebrews says the people of faith "admitted that they were foreigners and strangers on earth" and were "longing for a better country, a heavenly one" (Hebrews 11:13 and 16, NIV). Every believer is, in a sense, an immigrant on the way home. One day God "will wipe every tear from their eyes" (Revelation 21:4, NIV). Until then, He gives us His presence and His people.
In our message God Prepared Every Season, we are reminded that God is at work in every season of life. The season you are in right now, as hard as it feels, is not wasted.
Lord Jesus, You know what it is to be far from home. Thank You for seeing me in this new place. Give me strength for the long days, peace for my worried mind, and hope for my family. Help me find people who will walk with me. Remind me that my truest home is with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
At New Walk Church, many of us know what it means to start over. Join us for Sunday Bilingual Family Worship at 10am and Tuesday Prayer and Worship at 7:30pm at 3121 Park Avenue, South Plainfield NJ. Come as you are, in English or in Spanish. Plan Your Visit and we will be ready to welcome you.
