The Church, often referred to as the Body of Christ has an essential role, in God's plan. In this article, we will explore the purpose and mission of the Church as outlined in the Bible emphasizing its relevance in today's world.

The Mission of the Church

The mission of the Church is firmly based on Jesus Christs Great Commission mentioned in Matthew 28;19 20. In this commission, Jesus instructed His disciples to go out and make disciples of all nations. Let's break down the components that define the mission of the Church;

Spreading the Gospel Worldwide

The primary objective of the Church is to serve as God's messenger to spread His message of salvation throughout the world. Its responsibility is to proclaim repentance and faith, in Christ while making disciples from every nation (Matthew 28;19 20).

Collective Worship

The Church acts as a body where believers come together to worship and honor God (1 Corinthians 12;13).

Worship plays a role, in fulfilling the Church's mission, as it brings honor to God and strengthens the faith of its members.

Creating a Community of Saints

Another crucial aspect of the Church's mission is to foster a community of believers who are being transformed into the likeness of Christ (Ephesians 4;11 16). This involves nurturing their growth and equipping them for their journey.

Understanding the Purpose of the Church

To fully grasp the significance of the Church's mission it is important to comprehend what it represents;

The Body of Christ

The Church is often compared to the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12;27). This analogy emphasizes that the Church is a representation of Christ in this world carrying out His work.

Gods Sacred Temple

In Scripture we find references to the Church as Gods temple. As a dwelling place for His Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3;16 17; Ephesians 2;11 22). These passages highlight how sacred and spiritually significant the Church is.

The Bride of Christ

Furthermore, the Church is metaphorically depicted as the bride of Christ symbolizing an union and communion, between believers and Jesus (Ephesians 5;25 27; Revelation 19;7).

Church membership is not determined by distinctions. Rather, by placing faith in Jesus Christ. By believing in the work of Christ individuals become part of the Body of Christ (Ephesians 2;17 21). It is through Gods grace that people are added to the Church (Acts 2;47).

Objectives of the Church's Mission;

The mission of the Church can be summarized into three goals;

a. Spreading the Gospel globally;

The central mission of the Church is to share the message of salvation over the world making disciples from every nation (Matthew 28;19 20). Believers are empowered for this mission through the guidance and strength provided by the Holy Spirit (Acts 1;8).

b. Worshiping and honoring God;

Worship plays a role in fulfilling the Churchs mission encompassing forms of worship and utilizing spiritual gifts to honor and glorify God (1 Corinthians 14;12; Ephesians 5;19 20).

The responsibility of the Church also includes nurturing and equipping believers for growth and maturity. This involves cultivating characteristics such, as love, joy, peace and more. Known as fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5;22 26).
